Manner to Chair 2009 Campaign for Equal Justice

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Sept. 22, 2008 – Officials with the Legal Aid Society, the state’s largest non-profit law firm, recently announced the 2009 chair of the Campaign for Equal Justice.

Mark Manner, managing shareholder for Harwell, Howard, Hyne, Gabbert and Manner, P.C., will chair the 2009 campaign.

“This is a significant commitment of time and energy and we’re very grateful that one of Nashville’s leading attorneys has agreed to take on the challenge,” said Cindy Durham, director of development for the Legal Aid Society. “Mark has been a long-time supporter of the Legal Aid Society and I look forward to working with him.”

Manner represents private and public business clients in corporate and securities law, mergers and acquisitions, healthcare law, biotechnology, and venture capital investments. He has been recognized in Best Lawyers in America in the areas of corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, securities law and healthcare law. Additionally, he has been ranked in Chambers USA, Mid-South Super Lawyers, Nashville Business Journal's “Best of the Bar,” Nashville Business Journal's "Healthcare 100," and Business Tennessee's "Top 150 Lawyers."

Manner is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, and a past member of the board of directors of the Nashville Health Care Council. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Vanderbilt University Dyer Observatory and the Tennessee Biotechnology Association.

Manner already has begun to organize his committee for 2009.  Firms will be solicited later this year for the Leadership Cabinet (those pledging $360 or more per attorney) in anticipation of the campaign’s official kick-off in early March.  Large Firm Division (15 or more attorneys) Co-Chairs for 2009 are A. Stuart Campbell of Stites & Harbison PLLC and Anne C. Martin of Bone McAllester Norton PLLC.  Small Firm Division Co-Chairs for 2009 are Mark A. Beveridge of Kinnard, Clayton & Beveridge and Cynthia C. Chappell, sole practitioner and of counsel with Dodson, Parker, Behm & Capparella, PC.

The Legal Aid Society gives free civil legal aid to people who have nowhere else to turn. It serves 48 counties from offices in Clarksville, Columbia, Cookeville, Gallatin, Murfreesboro, Nashville, Oak Ridge, and Tullahoma. The Legal Aid Society is funded in part by United Way.
